About the Show

This year marks four decades of Amtrak as America’s Railroad. As we prepare to celebrate our 40th Anniversary, it is important to take a moment to thank the communities we serve across the country.

National Train Day presents us with the perfect platform to make this a reality. For this reason, Amtrak has teamed up with GRAMMY® winner and philanthropist, Gladys Knight, to serve as the spokesperson for National Train Day 2011 and host a special concert to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Not only will members of Boys & Girls Clubs join "The Empress of Soul" on stage, but a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the organization.

About National Train Day: National Train Day commemorates the 142nd anniversary of the transcontinental railroad?s inception by bringing to life the rich history of how trains have transformed America. The fourth annual National Train Day arrives on Saturday, May 7, so make your plans today to attend one of the major events at train stations in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Los Angeles or Chicago or join one of the hundreds of celebrations taking place in communities nationwide.
